Separation of roles of Chairperson and MD made voluntary by SEBI

The Securities and Exchange Board of India today(15th Feb.2022) changed the requirement for listed companies to separate roles of Chairperson and MD/CEO to voluntary from mandatory. The decision was taken at a Sebi board meet today. Sebi had earlier asked listed entities to split the roles of Chairperson and MD before the April 2022 deadline. Listed entities were initially required to separate the roles of chairperson and MD/CEO from April 1, 2020, onwards. However, based on industry representations, an additional time period of two years was given for compliance. The norms were part of the series of recommendations given by the Sebi-appointed Uday Kotak committee on corporate governance. Read more

IRCTC zooms 97% from April low and now among 100 most valuable firms on BSE

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) entered the top 100 most valuable listed companies' club after its stock hit a new high of Rs 3,041.20, up 6 percent on the BSE in intra-day trade today(6th Sept.2021). The stock has rallied 97 percent from its low of Rs 1,541 touched on April 19, 2021. With Rs 48,213 crore market capitalisation (market cap) as of 11:44 am, IRCTC stood at 95th position in the overall market cap ranking on the BSE, the exchange data shows. The state-owned company surpassed Colgate-Palmolive (India), Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Balkrishna Industries, ACC, and Bandhan Bank in the market cap ranking today. 50 listed companies 'missing' after raising money

Fifty listed companies are not to be found on their registered address and had been suspended for violations for more than six months. The stock exchange has also been unable to contact them through other means. The BSE had reached out to them with show-cause notices in December 2020.The latest notice dated May 26 gave the companies 15 days to respond. A number of companies raised money from investors in the 1990s and then were untraceable. These came to be known as ‘vanishing companies’. “We have given the notice to non-compliant companies seeking compliance. Where the company does not respond, further steps as mentioned above will be taken. Declaring a company as a ‘vanishing company’ is done by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs as per their criteria,” said an exchange official. Read more

BSE listed companies' market-cap hits record high

The total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies touched a new high of Rs 160.68 trillion today(9th Oct.2020), led by RIL, information technology (IT), and pharmaceutical stocks. Investor wealth of BSE-listed firms, measured by market capitalisation (m-cap), saw a previous record high of Rs 160.57 trillion, scaled on January 17, 2020. At 02:40 pm, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex traded at 40,526 points. The index is just 4 percent away from its all-time high level of 42,273.87, touched on January 20, 2020. The S&P BS Sensex, however, ended the day at 40,509 levels - up 327 points, 0.8 percent. On the other hand, the S&P BSE Midcap and the S&P BSE Smallcap index are over 20 percent away from their respective record high levels hit during January 2018.
