The Indian benchmark indices slid over 2 percent in today's(19th April 2021) early deals as India continued to report a record spike in daily Covid-19 cases. India recorded over 2.75 lakh new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, as per Worldometer.
The S&P BSE Sensex traded around 47,490 levels, down 1,300 points, and the Nifty50 index fell below the 14,300-mark. IndusInd Bank fell 5 percent and was the top Sensex laggard, followed by State Bank of India, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Fiannce, and ICICI Bank (down 4% each).
The Nifty sectoral indices were painted red, with the Nifty PSU Bank index, down 4.7 percent, bleeding the most.
In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices fell 2.8 percent, each.
ACC, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Bajaj Consumer Care, CRISIL, Agio Paper & Industries, Pratik Panels, Response Informatics, and Sri Chakra Cement will release quarterly numbers on Monday.
