Indian benchmark equities were slipped today(16th August 2021), in line with Asian markets. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was at 55,357 levels, down 81 points or 0.15 percent, while the Nifty50 defended 16,500-mark, down 23 points at 16.505 levels.
The Nifty Metal and Auto indices were the only indices in the green. In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were down 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.
Globally, Japan's Nikkei slipped 2 percent, Australia's ASX 200 fell 0.4 percent, and MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan traded flat. South Korea’s markets are closed on Monday for a holiday.
