Bharti Airtel jumps 2% after Google buys 1.2% stake in Bharti Airtel for $700 million

Shares of Bharti Airtel climbed nearly 2 percent on July 15 after the company said it is allotting 7.11 crore shares to Google on a preferential basis. The allotment is part of Google's commitment to invest $1 billion with Airtel, which included equity investment in the company worth $700 million, about Rs 5,224 crore, while the remaining $300 million will be invested through commercial agreements over the next five years, which include investments in scaling Airtel's offerings that cover a range of devices to consumers via innovative affordability programs. .“The ‘special committee of directors for preferential allotment of the company has approved the allotment of 71,176,839 equity shares of the face value of ₹5 each fully paid up, on a preferential basis to Google International LLC (Google) at an issue price of ₹734 per equity share (including a premium of ₹729 per equity share)," the carrier said in a note to BSE on Thursday. The Indian benchmark indices extended their winning run into the fourth straight trading session backed by solid gains in index heavyweights - Reliance Industries, Infosys, ICICI Bank, and Bharti Airtel. Reliance and Airtel were in the limelight, on reports that the three telecom majors (Jio, Airtel, Voda Idea) have sought 90-95 percent reduction in 5G spectrum auction prices. The IT shares were expected to be in focus owing to results announcements from Infosys, TCS, and Wipro. While IT major Infosys ended with a gain of 1.1 percent, TCS and Wipro, however, were down 1.5 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively, in trades awaiting the Q3 result announcements. Read more

The Indian benchmark indices were deep in the red as they ended a streak of four-day gains with sharp losses today(6th January 2022). The BSE Sensex was 680 points lower at 59,542, and the NSE Nifty was 17,730, lower by 195 points. The two indices were down over 1 percent each. In tandem with this, the broader markets were also negative but were seen trimming losses. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were down 0.6 and 0.4 percent, as compared to the 1 percent fall in the benchmarks. Sectoral rotation in favour of financials, particularly leading banks, is a likely scenario in 2022. There are market signals and macro triggers favouring financials. The key benchmark indices managed to hover near the highs of the day(3rd Nov.2021) due to buying support in select index heavyweights like - HDFC, Larsen & Toubro, and Infosys. The BSE Sensex was up 311 points at 60,340, and the NSE Nifty had gained 92 points at 17,981. The broader markets were also seen holding gains towards the end of the first hour of trades. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. The breadth too was fairly positive early on, with two advancing shares for every single declining stock on the BSE. Larsen & Toubro was up 3.3 percent at Rs 1,876 and was the top gainer among the Sensex 30 stocks. Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, and Kotak Bank were the other prominent gainers. Shares of telecom service providers gained up to 7 percent on the BSE in today’s(1st Nov.2021) intra-day trade after RJio launched the much-awaited JioPhone Next. Jio Platforms (“Jio”), a majority-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL). JioPhone Next will be made available from November 4. The device is priced at Rs 6,499. However, the company is offering customers EMI options starting at Rs 300 per month with a down payment of Rs 1,999. According to ICICI Securities, the pricing per se is not disruptive given the slew of smartphones already available in the Rs 5,000-7,000 range as well as the current mix of Rs sub 3,000 phone and sub Rs 100 ARPU paid by existing lower strata of 2G users. “We expect Jio move to target ARPU up gradation as well as retention of its own existing low-cost JioPhone users,” the brokerage firm said in a note. Indian equities scaled new record peaks in early deals today(30th August 2021) as Jerome Powell's speech last Friday suggested interest rate hike in the US could be later than previously thought. The frontline S&P BSE Sensex hit a new high of 56,544.35 while the Nifty50 touched 16,836 levels. Both the indices later scaled down to 56,458 and 16,803 levels, up 333 points and 98 points, respectively. In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices gained 1 percent each. Shares of Bharti Airtel gained 1.9 percent and traded at Rs 605.5 on the BSE in the intra-day trade today after the telecom services provider announced a Rs 21,000-crore rights issue. The stock hit an intra-day low of Rs 591.10 after opening at Rs 597.75. In comparison, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 0.69 percent at 56,513 points at 09:35 am.

Bharti Airtel concludes spectrum trading agreement with Jio

Shares of Bharti Airtel hit a new record high of Rs 638.60, on the BSE in the intra-day trade today(13th August 2021), after the company announced the closure of its agreement with Reliance Jio Infocomm to transfer the 'Right to Use' of Airtel's 800 MHz spectrum in three circles to Jio. Bharti Airtel in a statement said the company has received Rs 1,004.8 crore from Jio for the proposed transfer. In addition, Jio will assume future liabilities of Rs 469.3 crore relating to the spectrum, the company said. In the past month, the stock of Bharti Airtel has outperformed the market by surging 20 percent, as compared to a 4.8 percent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex. Read more

Bharti Airtel shares have traded in a broad range of Rs 520 to Rs 200 from mid-2009 till February 2020. The year 2020 saw the counter break past this consolidation range. However, the price action could not lift the volumes in the favour of the bulls. The selling pressure continued to dominate the stock price above Rs 600 mark. Now, it will be Airtel's third attempt to conquer the selling pressure in the range of Rs 630 to Rs 600 levels. A delay in tariff hike by telecom services providers Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Reliance Jio (a subsidiary of Reliance Industries) has not yet turned analysts cautious on the sector. On the contrary, the underperformance of Bharti Airtel and Vi at the bourses, relative to the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex and S&P BSE Telecom indices on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, can be used as an opportunity to enter these stocks from a long-term perspective, analysts say. So far in the calendar year 2021 (CY21), the stock of Bharti Airtel has risen 2.8 percent on the BSE while Vi has declined 8 percent. Peer firm Reliance Industries’ stock that now is seen by analysts as a play both on telecom and oil, on the other hand, has risen 3.2 percent, ACE Equity data show. Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea shares plunge up to 9% after Jio launches new post-paid plans

Shares of telecom service providers, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) shares fell up to 9 per cent in Wednesday’s trade after Reliance Jio rolled out postpaid tariff plans, making a concerted bid for the higher paying subscribers of India's older operators. Under the new plans, Jio is offering an extensive content portfolio at a rate which is 6-20 per cent cheaper than Airtel and Voda-Idea. Reliance Jio has introduced new postpaid plans called JioPostpaid Plus that offers a free subscription to OTT platforms Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, and Netflix and a host of other benefits. It is also offering in-flight connectivity for Indian travellers going overseas, free international roaming in the US and UAE, besides other offers. Jio’s new monthly post-paid tariff plans range from Rs 399 to Rs 1,499, will be available from September 24 in Jio Stores and via home delivery, while Airtel’s postpaid plans start at Rs 499, though Vi’s also begin from Rs 399. Bharti Airtel jumps 7 percent, Voda Idea tanks 20 per cent after AGR Dues Verdict

Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd. gained 7 per cent to Rs. 555, a biggest single-day gain since May, while Vodafone Idea Ltd. hit a lower circuit of 20 per cent after the Supreme Court granted telecom operators 10 years to pay thousands of crores worth of pending dues. The apex court said telcos should pay 10 per cent of the AGR-related dues by March 31, 2021. It further added that every year by February 7 a payment has to be made. The chairmen of the telecom companies will have to give undertakings for payments, according to an order by the three-judge panel headed by Justice Arun Mishra. Default on payment instalments will invite interest, penalty and contempt of court. According to the DoT’s calculations, Bharti Airtel owes the exchequer Rs 43,780 crore, of which the company has paid Rs 18,004 crore. The Carlyle Group to invest $235 million in Nxtra Data Ltd, of Bharti Airtel

The Carlyle Group today(1st July 2020) announced that it will invest $235 million for approximately 25 percent stake in Nxtra Data Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharti Airtel engaged in the data centre business. The post-money enterprise valuation of Nxtra is approximately $1.2 billion and Carlyle will hold a stake of approximately 25% in the business upon completion of the transaction, with Airtel continuing to hold the remaining stake of approximately 75%, Bharti Airtel said in a statement. The transaction is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals, including approval from the Competition Commission of India.

Amazon may buy 5% stake worth $2 billion in Bharti Airtel

Amazon.com is in early-stage talks to buy a stake worth at least $2 billion in mobile operator Bharti Airtel, according to sources. The planned investment, if completed, would mean Amazon acquiring a roughly 5% stake based on the current market value of Bharti, which is India's third-largest telecoms company with more than 300 million subscribers. The discussions between Amazon and Bharti come at a time when global players are placing major bets on the digital arm of Reliance Industries, which owns Bharti's telecom rival Jio. Reliance's digital unit has raised $10 billion in recent weeks from Facebook, KKR, and others. The talks between Bharti and Amazon are at an early stage and the deal terms could change, or an agreement may not be reached, according to the sources.

Promoter to sell 2.75% stake in Bharti Airtel via block deals

The sale is expected to be through block deals on 26th May 2020 on the stock exchanges and is essential to pare the promoter’s debt. In the past one month, Reliance Industries has announced five deals, worth over Rs 78,500 crore and involving sales of small stakes in Jio Platforms, while GlaxoSmithKline has raised Rs 25,480 crore by selling Hindustan Unilever shares.

Bharti Airtel hits all-time high on strong Q4 results

Shares of Bharti Airtel rallied 10 percent to hit a record high of Rs 591.95 today(19th May 2020) in the morning trade after the company reported a healthy 15.1 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth in consolidated revenue at Rs 23,723 crore for the quarter ended March 2020 (Q4FY20). The stock of the telecom services provider surpassed its previous all-time high level of Rs 570 touched on May 13, 2020. In comparison, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 2.3 percent, or 697.79 points, at 30,716.77 level at 10:37 am. The company’s India revenues also reported a strong 14.4 percent YoY jump at Rs 17,438 crore during the quarter. Mobile revenues witnessed a YoY growth of 21.8 percent primarily led by the increase in 4G customer base coupled with improved tariffs. Read more
