MARKET UPDATE: Sensex up 300 points to 53,246, while Nifty was around 15,900 level, after touching 16,000 earlier

The Indian key benchmark indices erased their opening gains in early deals as financial stocks underperformed. The BSE Sensex was up 300 points to 53,246, while the NSE Nifty was around the 15,900 level after it touched 16,000 earlier. The broader markets were in the green with the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices rising up to 1.4 percent.
Sectorwise, Metals, Auto, Media and Pharma indices on the Nifty led gains, rising upto 2 per cent. Remaining pockets were also firmly in green. Nifty IT, Realty, Energy and FMCG were other notable gainers.
Among stocks, Adani Power and Tata Elxsi gained 5 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, on account of their additon to the MSCI Standard index. Siemens, on the other hand, slipped 3 per cent. The company reported a flat growth in Q4 net profit at Rs 328.90 crore in the quarter ended March 2022 as against Rs 328.30 crore in the year ago period.
