India Coronavirus update: 32,695 new cases in the past 24 hours- biggest single-day spike yet

India has recorded 32,695 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours — its biggest single-day spike yet — to take its total number of coronavirus cases to 970,596. With over 600 deaths on 15th July 2020, the country's Covid-19 the death toll has now reached 24,929. India, the third-most-affected country by total cases and eighth by death toll, has added 201,580 cases — 21% of its total tally — in the past 7 days alone. Worldometer recorded an increase of over 230,000 coronaviruses. The recovery rate in West Bengal has gone downhill since the last two weeks, while the rate of infection has been increasing — and all these when the city is facing an acute shortage of beds in both government and private hospitals. In the last two weeks, from 30 June to 14 July, Bengal’s discharge/recovery rate has fallen from 66.48 percent to 60 percent. In Kolkata, it has nosedived from 64 percent to 56 percent, according to state government data.

District Collectors of Coimbatore and Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu have tested positive for coronavirus and have been   admitted in hospitals. As the COVID-19 cases spike in Karnataka, State Health   Minister B Sriramulu on Wednesday said either people should inculcate awareness in them else only "God" can save them from COVID-19. Karnataka has so far reported 47,253 COVID-19   positive cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Odisha government on Thursday commenced plasma therapy   for the treatment of COVID- 19 patients at a hospital in  Cuttack, an official said. The procedure was conducted on a  48-year-old patient at the Ashwini Hospital for the first  time in the state, technical advisor to the health department  Dr Jayant Panda said. Human trials of Covid-19 vaccine candidate Meanwhile Zydus Cadila's move to begin human trials of its indigenously developed vaccine candidate for COVID-19 is an important milestone for an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', Department of Biotechnology Secretary Renu Swarup said today. 

As many as 13,706,323 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19, While more than 8,030,267 have   recovered, 586,821 have died so far, according to   Worldometer. Country-wise, the United States remains the most affected. It   has recorded over 70,000 cases in a day, taking its tally of  cases to 3,615,991 and death toll to 140,105. The US is followed by Brazil, which has 1,970,909 cases and 75,523  deaths, and India (970,169 cases, 24,929 deaths). Meanwhile, a number of promising developments related to coronavirus vaccine announced recently have met with the approval of US president Donald Trump.Using his favoured social media platform Twitter, Trump wrote: “Great News on Vaccines!” .
