Election results 2021 UPDATE: It's TMC in Bengal; BJP in Assam; LDF in Kerala

Counting of votes to the legislative assemblies of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and the union territory of Puducherry is underway. A number of seats in the four states and 1 UT are Assam (126), West Bengal (294 seats), Tamil Nadu (234 seats), Kerala (140 seats), and Puducherry (30 seats). West Bengal election result 2021 LIVE updates: Trends indicate that incumbent Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) will end up convincingly winning in West Bengal, while challenger Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could fall way below its expected number of seats (elections were held in 292 constituencies). In a setback of sorts for the TMC, however, party chief and chief minister Mamata Banerjee leading with a wafer-thin margin (820 votes) against opponent Suvendu Adhikari’s in Nandigram.

In Tamil Nadu, while the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (DMK) is well ahead of the incumbent All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (AIADMK), the latter is holding its own in some pockets, clearly avoiding the rout that had been expected in a state. Besides, Kamal Haasan of the Makkal Needhi Maiam is leading in Coimbatore. At 1:30 pm, the M K Stalin-led DMK was leading in 127 of the state’s 234 constituencies, while the AIADMK was leading in 103.

In Kerala, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is seeking to break the state's four-decade-old trend of swinging between the communists and the Congress-led United Democratic Front.

The BJP is likely to retain Assam, according to most pollsters, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) may beat anti-incumbency and remain in power in Kerala.

In Puducherry the AINRC-led NDA maintained its lead in 8 out of 30 assembly seats while the Congress-led front was ahead in two segments as the counting of votes polled in April 6 elections was underway.However, Founder leader of AINRC and former Chief Minister of Union Territory N Rangasamy was trailing behind an Independent candidate Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok in Yanam constituency, according to trends available by 12.30 pm today.
