At close, the Sensex was down 562.34 points or 1.12% at 49,801.62, and the Nifty was down 189.20 points or 1.27% at 14,721.30 for the fourth consecutive session amid a broad-based sell-off. Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India (SBI) and ICICI Bank contributed the most to the indices’ loss. While gainers included ITC, TCS, Infosys and HDFC.About 818 shares have advanced, 2115 shares declined, and 138 shares are unchanged.
All the sectoral indices ended in the red with the Nifty PSU Bank index fell 4 per cent and Nifty Realty, Metal fell 3 per cent. The Nifty Pharma, Private Bank, and Auto indices, meanwhile, skid up to 2 per cent. The S&P BSE MidCap index sliding 2.28 per cent, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index skid 2.12 per cent.
