Closing Bell: Sensex up 240 points, Nifty at 18593.85

The S&P BSE Sensex climbed to a high of 62,943 in the intra-day trade, but settled at 62,787, up 240 points or 0.38 percent. The Nifty50, meanwhile, hit a high of 18,640 during the day before closing at 18,594, up 60 points or 0.32 percent. On the NSE Nifty 50 index, M&M, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, L&T, and Grasim are the top gainers of the day. On the other side Divi's Lab, Asian Paints, TechM, Hero MotoCorp, and Nestle India are the top losers of the day, In the broader markets, Nifty Midcap 100, which touched a fresh lifetime high last week, settled flat, up 0.14%, while NSE Smallcap 100 added 0.36%. Sectorally, Nifty Auto added 1.26%, while Nifty IT slipped up 0.3%. Public lender index, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty FMCG tanked 0.43%, Nifty Pharma was 0.26% in the green, and Nifty Media surged 0.88%.
