Closing Bell: Sensex down 223 points, Nifty at 18,563

At Close, The 30-pack Sensex shed 223.01 points or 0.35 percent to close at 62,625.63, and the Nifty was down 71.10 points or 0.38 percent at 18,563.40. Tata Steel, HUL, State Bank of India (SBI), Infosys, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank, Asian Paints, ITC, TCS, and RIL were the top laggards on the 30-pack index as they fell up to 2 percent. Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Life, Divis Labs, Eicher Motors, UPL, and ONGC were additional losers on the Nifty50. The broader indices closed in with cuts, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 settled 0.14% and 0.12% lower respectively. The sole winner was the Nifty Microcap 250 which saw gains of 0.13%. Sectorally, Bank Nifty closed flat, down 0.01%, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media, and Nifty Auto crashed up by 1.21%. The only sectoral gainers were Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Realty.
